Lectors

Lectors proclaim the Sacred Scripture at Mass. Because of the Scripture’s importance at Mass, lectors should read clearly and slowly. That requires practice, not “winging it”! Also, lectors should dress with dignity, reflecting the sacredness of the Mass. Because they carry out a public ministry, a lector must be a Catholic in good standing: attending Sunday Mass faithfully and living a morally upright life.

If one has pondered and prayed over this, considers himself able to read audibly and well, and desires to serve the parish in this capacity, please contact Father Loftus.

The word of God is something alive and active: it cuts like any double-edged sword but more finely: it can slip through the place where the soul is divided from the spirit, or joints or marrow; it can judge the secret emotions and thoughts. No created thing can hide from Him; everything is uncovered and open to the eyes of the One to whom we must give an account of ourselves.
