Reconciliation

He breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained." - John 20:22-23

Are there sins so deadly, which tell God that He is no longer welcome in one’s soul? Yes. “Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)

What does a baptized person do if he sins gravely; for example, the sin of abortion or adultery? The answer is the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession), which restores God's Life to our soul. Jesus gave His first priests the grace to absolve ("take away") sins when He appeared to them on the Sunday of His Resurrection. He breathes upon them, and says the words above in John 20:22-23.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is the only real path to freedom from the tyranny of sin...and the only path to real joy in the Holy Spirit. It is a real rebirth; in fact, a resurrection from the “living death” of mortal sin. It is the only place where real guilt can be taken away by the Blood of Christ, applied to us by the ordained priest in the Catholic Church. You are only one good Confession away from JOY!

Confession becomes a spiritual rebirth that transforms the penitent into a new creature. Only God’s grace can work this miracle, and it is accomplished through the words and gestures of the priest.
